Pastor Dave was born in Waukon, IA and raised on the family farm north of Waterville, IA. He was baptized, confirmed, and ordained at Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church, rural Waterville. Pastor Dave is a 1986 graduate of Waukon High School; attended Luther College from ’86-’89; and after his call to prepare for ordained ministry graduated in 1990 from Upper Iowa University, Fayette, IA. After a year working in retail management he and Joleen were married in 1991. Ten days later they moved into Wartburg Theological Seminary, Dubuque, IA where he graduated in 1996.
Pastor Dave served his internship in New Rockford, ND. His seminary chaplaincy was completed at Gunderson Lutheran, LaCrosse, WI. Pastor Dave has served in congregations in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa before coming to Decorah Lutheran.
Joleen was raised on the family farm near Plainfield, IA and is a 1987 graduate of Plainfield High School. She was working at Bremwood Children’s Home in Waverly, IA when she and Pastor Dave were engaged.
Kiersten was born during Seminary in 1992. She is currently a Nursing major at Luther College. She enjoys singing with the Aurora Choir and is excited to have made the Nursing program. Andrew was born on internship in 1995. He enjoys singing, playing piano, deer hunting and the new friendships he is making in Decorah. Garrett was born during the Sorenson’s first call in Wisconsin in 2000. Garrett is in sixth grade and he plays trumpet and piano. He too is enjoying school in Decorah and the new friendships he is making.
The Sorenson family feels that coming to Decorah Lutheran and the community of Decorah is a great gift and look forward to many years here.
VISUAL ARTS FOR EPIPHANY
The word “Epiphany” means “to make reveal or to make known”, so during this season it is appropriate to pray “Reveal Yourself To Us”. In each of the gospels appointed for the Sundays of Epiphany, we see different portrayals of Jesus. Today at His baptism he is revealed as “The Beloved”. In the coming Sundays we will discover that he is the King of Israel, the Son of God, the Son of Man, the Holy One, the Healer, and the Good News. The logo was designed by Clemens Schmidt.

Next week, February 12 we will celebrate Red Dress Sunday at DLC.
Health Ministries would like everyone to wear something “red” or with “red” in it next Sunday (it could be a dress, a sweater, a tie, or even shoes!) to help make us all aware of the impact heart disease has on each of us. Blood pressures will also be checked in the social hall during coffee hour that day.
“Noisy Offering” will start on Sunday February 12.
Members are encouraged to toss their loose change in the baskets that will be passed around at the time of the Children’s sermon. (During the 1st service only).
This offering will be designated for Panama
Buy a Cookie, Save a Life!
The DLC Confirmation groups will be having a bake sale fund raiser for the Northeast Iowa Humane Society on Sunday, February 5th. A large variety of baked goods will be available for a free will donation after each church service in the Social Hall. Pick up a snack before the big game!
