Kiva
Dear Sunday School Teachers:
We are starting a program with Kiva, a micro-lending organization, that is aimed at reducing poverty in developing countries. With as little as $25, your Sunday School class can make a loan to someone in need that will empower them to lift themselves out of poverty.
Kiva has a great website, www.kiva.org that can tell you more about how we can make a difference in peoples’ lives.
Micro-lending allows your class to pick a person somewhere in the developing world to make a loan to. The class will be able to read a profile of the person or group requesting the loan. As the loan is repaid, the class will receive updates. When the loan has been repaid, the class will have the opportunity to re-lend the money to another person or group.
Please send the attached envelopes and information sheet home with your students. We would like the envelopes returned by Sunday, May 2. Each grade level will be a team. As soon as $25 is collected, the class will select a person to make a loan to.
If you have any questions about Kiva, please contact Greg Eide. His phone number is 382-9258 and his email is eidegreg@luther.edu
Thank you for your help,
