Stewardship at DLC

Stewardship is about giving.

Giving is not necessarily a natural human act. We learn to give, and in turn receive the joys from having shared ourselves and our resources. Most people have a passion for learning developed from our earliest years. We know that Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Confirmation, Adult Forums, and Adult Bible study are all ways we can learn and develop our faith. We include in our church budget continuing education opportunities for our pastors and other congregational staff. We are especially fortunate at Decorah Lutheran to have access to the Luce-Bergeson fund for educational opportunities that come before us. Learning is inspiring, and with inspiration comes the desire for increasing our knowledge.

These are common examples of formal learning situations, and generally knowledge is the focus of formal learning. In reality, there is a lot of informal learning taking place all the time. A wide variety of activities take place in the congregation that contribute to the health and well-being of DLC. Many of these are listed weekly in the Bulletin and placed on the monthly calendar in the Spirit. These activities are especially powerful when building on the strengths of the individual members. We learn to work together and develop confidence in each other so that we can meet challenges not only in our congregation but also in our daily lives. Learning tolerance, mutual understanding and interdependence is part of what holds us together. The common bond that we have is the Gospel and the charge to spread the Good News.
As we work together during this time of transition, your time and talents are needed in this community. This is a generous congregation with a long history of sharing. The more we do together, the more we learn about ourselves and each other. Our common mission provides us with the inspiration to learn more, do more, engage with each other more.
